Hello, I'm Dave Moreno, Pastor here at PUMC.
I was born and raised in San Antonio. My parents, David and Mary Catherine, met and married in Belfast, Ireland during WW II when my
father was stationed there as a member of the Army Air Corp. I have four sister and one brother.
I met my wife, Ginny, at a United Methodist Young Adult retreat. We were married in December of 1979. Ginny is a secondary English teacher at Bay City High School. We have a daughter, Nickie, who is an Associate Pastor at a church in Virginia. She and her husband live in the Washington, D.C. area.
I have served in a college student ministry for more than almost two decades in the Rio Grande Valley. Prior to being a Director of Campus Ministries, I worked in youth and young adult ministries in Dallas, Edinburg, Austin and San Antonio. Helping develop and build a strong sense of community, faith and passion for service have been my greatest joys. I am looking forward to partnering with you to continue to build on the good work already taking place at First UMC Palacios!
OUR CHURCH HISTORY
Matagorda County was organized in 1837, and two years later residents established the Matagorda Methodist Church. Decades later, in 1903, a group of people met in a one-room schoolhouse and organized the First Methodist Church of Palacios. The congregation met in the schoolhouse until 1905.
Church members built Pioneer Hall, a place of worship for all of Palacios. They soon added a parsonage and, in 1912, built a larger sanctuary. Although Hurricane Carla damaged much of the church property in 1961, the congregation has rebuilt and added new buildings and services and activities.
More than a century after it began, the First United Methodist Church of Palacios continues to play an important role in the lives of its members and its community.
